Counselling Services York
Hello
Hi, I'm Laura the face behind Laura Winteringham counselling and Innovation Counselling that I run with my friend and colleague, we are based at the Innovation Centre at the University of York.
As a counsellor, I am here to help you navigate through life's challenges. Whatever challenges or issues you are facing, I am here to provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. Together, we can work towards finding solutions and achieving your goals.
For me, the most important start to any therapeutic working relationship is to create and build a trusting and equal relationship between myself and my client. From building this foundation, I have experienced clients feel understood and safe, they feel able to voice their thoughts and feelings they may have not been able to say to others and at times even to themselves.
My Story
I have worked for many years as a Sports Therapist.
Throughout my work, I recognised that mental health was becoming a more integral part of my practice, developing a deep interest in mental health and the effects it can have on an individual not just mentally but physically and the impact this has on day to day life.
When I found myself struggling with my hands, I recognised a natural progression from my experience through work, was to commence my journey to become a therapeutic counsellor, to support people in their time of need.
When an individual reaches out to ask for support, that's exactly what I provide, a supportive safe space for you to explore your feelings and emotions.
Although Person-centered therapy is my core modality, I take an integrative approach in my work, this is to ensure that each individual receives the best possible outcome through our work together, I do this with Solution focused brief therapy and CBT .
Fast forward a few years, Innovation Counselling was born.
Working together with another therapist, we offer the best fit for each individual client, through our individual areas and expertise.
I am committed to providing compassionate and professional care to all my clients.
I am a proud member of both the BACP, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and the NCPS, the National Counselling and Psychotherapy society, this means the training I have taken is robust and to the highest of
standards.
